On average Slovaks plan to spend some Sk4,800 (144 Euro) on Christmas presents, which doesn’t represent any significant growth year-on-year. The data follow from the survey - focused on Christmas behaviour of Slovak customers - carried out by TNS SK on a sample of 1,033 respondents aged over 15 in November. According to the survey, people aged 40-49 plan to spend the most (Sk6,277) for Christmas presents compared to the Slovak average, while people with university education plan to spend Sk6,187, and people from towns with a population of over 100,000 intend to spend Sk5,900 on presents this year. The least will be spent by people under 17 (Sk2,613) and people over 60 (Sk4,138), which is connected with their relatively low incomes. The citizens of Banska Bystrica region will spend Sk4,129 on average, and respondents with elementary education intend to spend Sk3,521. As for the amount of money spent for Christmas foodstuffs and beverages, Slovak households expect it to be similar to last year, or about Sk3,670. Although the majority of Slovaks consider Christmas a holiday of joy, happiness and peace, and many people view them as traditional holidays when whole families meet, as many as three quarters (76 percent) of respondents said that Christmas Holidays are financially demanding.
