Not Recklessly Ahead but Deep Within us
Man’s personality is not created by a headlong run ahead but by permanent retreat into one’s self. The older we are the more childlike we become. The past is never concluded. Evaluating it in the mirror of experiences and knowledge the same things are looked at from different angles. Childhood is our credit paid back by our lifelong work. The world of children is far more magical, eventful, full of fantasy which helps us to work out everything that we miss. |
The essence of art is not to educate but to offer alternatives of the world. Not only to see things as they are but also as they could be. To name emotions that are unnameable. To form children’s world for life in time, but predominantly for life in values.
It is known from previous experience that the improper raising of children costs us dear. Our common interest is to lead them to a respect for values, to show them another side of the world, different from the one offered by commercial projections. Moreover, to be artistic does not mean to be boring. To present verified values in a form respecting a young man’s world, is a challenge for the media. It is our duty to fight against poor taste and trashy in order that our children at some point would not ask us what other living alternatives we offered them in their childhood.
In its nearly 80-year history, Slovak Radio has always laid emphasis on original productions for children. It is proved not only by a 50-year continuity of radio fairy tales for children but also by a cycle of good night stories for children broadcast daily, radio plays for youth as well as documentaries. We are well aware of our responsibility for the future. Child listeners belong to our prime target groups. As a man who has perceptively listened to Slovak Radio from childhood, I can remember the importance of words on the radio. We go beyond our possibilities with children. Fantasy knows neither frontiers nor distances. It makes the world more liveable and that is what it is all about. We live for feelings. Dear guests, feel at home here. The sky is indigo and all the good we make for children will be copied directly to heaven.
